Her life history clearly shows that as in the late 60 and early seventies woman generally working in the low end job. So, Laura was also a commoner. She joined the job of school teacher and then after completion of the Master Degree she joined the job of a librarian. This clearly shows that she was living a very common life, as the women of United States live their lives by then However, the course of Laura Welch changed when she met George W. Bush in 1977 in a barbecue party at the backyard of the home of their mutual friends. .

And soon this mere acquaintance bosomed into a relationship, which lasted for three month. This three month courtship was ended in the marriage of her with George in November 5 of 1977. The marriage ceremony took place at the First United Methodist Church in Midland where Laura was baptized.

 In the year 1981, Laura gave birth to twin daughters. They were named Barbara and Jenna. The twins graduated from high school in 2000. Then Barbara completed her graduation from Yale University and Jenna completed her graduation from University of Texas at Austin in 2004. 

While raising her children, Laura didn’t sit in her home and she simultaneously served as a volunteer in a number of organizations. She also helped her friends in the Midland Public Library and was in the executive board of the Junior League of Midland. She was also in the Board Executive Committee of Dallas Public Library. 

 

She was also in the Parent Teacher Association at Preston Hollow Elementary School and the Community Partners Board of Child Protective Services.

 She played a crucial part in the maturation of her husband. In 1980, George was a transformed man. She ardently makes sure that George quit his drinking habit. With her all time great support, the George took the decision of quitting the habit of drinking. She along with her husband loves to take out some time from there busy schedule and spent in their sprawling family estate, the “Bush Compound” better known as “Walker’s Point”. This estate is located in Kennebunkport, Maine.

Laura Bush became the First Lady of Texas when her husband was elected as the Governer of Texas. She served as the first lady of that state from 1995 to 2000. She worked for women's and children's causes, establishing the Adopt-a-Caseworker Program and the Rainbow Room program. She also focused on literacy and libraries, and established the First Lady's Family Literacy Initiative, which encouraged families to read together.During her years in the Governor's Mansion, she did not hold a single formal event.

After the outcome of the 2000 Presidential Election was finally resolved in December 2000, her husband resigned as Texas Governor to prepare for his inauguration as President of the United States in January 2001; Bush then became the First Lady of the United States.

During the January 2005 second inauguration ceremonies for her husband as the President of the United States, Laura Bush was praised by People magazine and others for her elegance and better use of fashion. One of the designers she has used is Scaasi. While her First Lady approval ratings remained high as her husband's approval ratings slid she began to take a stronger role in his second term. 

She is a typical housewife and take care of every schedule of her husband. During the inaguaration of the famous TV serial “Desperate Housewifes” Geroge in a witty manner diclosed to the media that its because of Laura instruction he go to bed by 9 in the night. That what we call the real house master.
